I am a woman who is 43 years old. I have recently diagnosed with complete cataract in my left eye and it is spreading to the other. This seems like a simple problem to correct, yet I (like so many others) Have no health insurance.
I have contacted many organizations. There seems to be 2 reasons why I do not qualify. The first is that I live with my boyfriend. This makes our “household” income to high for the poverty level. Although most of his income is used for his child support obligations. ( and rightly so) The second reason is that I am only 43 years old. The agencies that typically help in cataract surgery only do so for the elderly. I will not qualify for another 7 years.
I am becoming disheartened with my country. I can no longer drive, work in my field of crafts, enjoy the sunshine, read books, etc. Because I am not wealthy enough to afford this relatively simple surgery. I was informed by my doctor that for the small sum of 12,000 I could have both eyes fixed. I will not be able to afford this. So for me my world becomes a blur more and more as days go by. My doctor told me that it will be about 6 months to a year before the other eye has it completely.
I beg of my country to help people with no health care! I have made a decision that my life will be spent to this end. I have a purpose now. That maybe one day I could possibly help someone like myself and the many who are out there suffering needlessly.
