Aug 2003 – Upon going to the ER room because my son possibly broke his hand, they sent us to an MT Unit, due to it not being a life threatening emergency where we waited in a 90 degree waiting room with people who had a flu or pneumonia etc. Upon requesting a mask, they told us “we don’t have any”. Upon requesting ice, we were told that they had none. After 3 hours, they started taking those who had come in after us. My son then went to the receptionist and stated that the big sign read “if your symptoms get worse please inform us and we will get you in sooner”….they did not. Still no ice. A nurse came out and informed us that it would be another 6 hour wait and the doctor looked at the x-ray and said the hand wasn’t broke. We left which was considered an Against Medical Advice (AMA) even though the dr. said it was not broken. I also witnessed a mother being told at the same time as me it would be a 6 hour wait for her toddler who was having problems breathing.
On Halloween, my 5 yr old daughter hit her head and was bleeding; my shirt was drenched. I took her in and when reading off her medical number the receptionist kept backspacing; I had to write it down so she could see it, it took a good minute. Then she said our copay was $100 (usually $35) upon asking why so high she asked if it was thru medical or work, I replied work and she then stated it was “to keep riff raff out”. Another 5 minute wait. After getting in the back, my daughter could not lie down due to “getting blood on the pillow” from what the nurse said. Another nurse came in and put the stapler on the bed in plain sight…I about passed out. Luckily my husband came to help.
This ER room is the worse. A nurse will yell at you to shut up, they yanked my 1 yr old baby down on the bed by her leg that had just come out of a cast and I was told to keep her quiet, not to mention they have lost ALL of my 13 yr old’s shot records and demand that I be the one to contact all of the doctors.
