I found out in Nov of 2002, I had Spindella Cell Sarcoma of the Nerve sheath, which a malignant tumor was found in my lower right mandible. The sheath around the nerve that goes down the jaw was cancerous, so the right jaw and 7-8 teeth were removed. A few inches of the fibula bone in my right leg was removed and reconstructed where my right jaw use to be. I went thru the six weeks of radiation on my head and neck. It has been a journey. I am very frustrated with the insurance company. They are now denying me the rest of the procedure which is surgery to put an implant base to my right jaw and later if the tissue and bone and the base all take, I will get the implants. I don’t understand. This is cancer and the insurance company will reconstruct a woman’s breast. Yet I have to prove a medical necessity for having teeth. It is not cosmetic. It is very difficult to chew and sometimes swallow. I really wonder who does review these claims. I will fight this all the way because I believe I am entitled to have quality of life. It is amazing to me that a person or group of people can dictate a persons quality of life. This needs to change.
